Seen from my Window - A Meditation

Seen from my Window - A Meditation

I wake this morning to the house still dark. The subtle cold colors painting the window sill with blue and grey.

The world outside quiet, I stand still. The soundless city asleep under snow.

The radiator sings subtly beside me. I listen, breathing deeply and bless the vines.

Small flakes in soft focus drawn by gravity; bare feet - warm on the wood floor; fire escapes like sculpture.

From my window, the world slowly reveals itself. I live in the house, that lives in the ivy, that lives in the snow.

May you find stillness before the window
May poetry reveal itself to you before the window
May peace enter your breath before the window
May you be a notice’r of the subtlety of the world before the window
May reciprocity be on your mind today before the window

Your Turn…

Stand before a window where you live today - plant your feet, loosen your shoulders, raise your chin slightly
Take three deep breaths with your eyes closed - after the last breath, open your eyes
Take in the world through all your senses for a few minutes, breathe deeply, then write small notes
Poetry starts with simple observation - the truth as it presents itself before you, as only you can find it
Notice what you observe and also what you feel, then observe again and observe with this feeling in mind
What can be seen from you window? What small sounds are present? What is your body sensing?
What does all this stir within you? What small details can you find? What is unique about your perspective?

Take 5 photos of what you see through your window from different angles.
Write a short description for each photo, then combine them to form a poem.
Then create a blessing / offering for someone else using the format :
May fill in the blank

Share your photos, your poem, and your the blessing / offering with someone out loud

Here’s one I wrote for you :::

May you find stillness before the window
May poetry reveal itself to you before the window
May peace enter your breath before the window
May you be a notice’r of the subtlety of the world before the window
May reciprocity be on your mind today before the window
